Grow closer to God & each other in the Great Smoky Mountains

Montreat Conference Center holds an annual youth conference in the mountains of western North Carolina where over five thousand high schoolers from organizations across the country come together to learn and grow in their faith for a week of study, worship, and mountain recreation. The Montreat trip has been a VPC Youth tradition for years, and is one of our most popular trips (and the one with the most limited space, so sign up early!). Students have consistently named this trip as one of the most influential trips of their high school years. The conference features themed keynote speakers, worship sessions, and small groups where high schoolers from VPC are grouped with high schoolers from other organizations to form new, meaningful relationships during the week.

Costs & Deadlines

  • Total cost: $600

    • $300 deposit due with registration

    • $300 final payment due May 15, 2024

Trip fee includes all transportation, meals, lodging, the conference registration fee, and a trip t-shirt. The only other expenses a student might have on the trip would be fast food on the drive there and back, a meal on the one free afternoon during the week, and any souvenir or shopping money they might want for excursions to Asheville or the surrounding areas.

Cancellations

Things happen. We understand! If you cancel before May 15, you will be issued a full refund. If you cancel after May 15, we cannot refund your $300 deposit unless another student fills your vacated spot, or at staff discretion in the event of an emergency. If VPC Youth cancels the trip due to COVID considerations, you will be refunded in full.

How do we get there?

In short - we make the haul in the vans! It’s a long day on the road, but totally worth it to wake up on Sunday to have restful morning and afternoon before events start Sunday evening. Staff and/or our trained summer interns take turns driving and we are always amazed at how quickly the day goes by, and we end up with lots of stories just from the drive!

Where will we stay?

Each year, we rent two mountain cabins close by the Montreat conference center (one for boys and one for girls). We’ll stay there for the week and we’ll make our own meals at the cabins (food is provided). Students will need to pack sheets and a pillow and/or a sleeping bag to use on the beds.

What will we do on our free day?

In our free time, we’ll hit up some local spots and enjoy the mountains. In the past, we’ve gone swimming at waterfalls, hiking in the Smokies, or on day trips to Asheville, NC to try local restaurants and shopping. If you’ve never heard of Mellow Mushroom, Cracker Barrel, or Zaxby’s, you will by the time the Montreat trip gets back to Kansas City.
